En el centro de la tierra,

un piano en silencio;

la música, los ruidos del mundo:

no hay animal que no grite,

chille, aúlle, bufe, resople;

no hay cosa

que no cruja, chirríe,

rechine, fermente, exhale.

En el centro, un hombre

inmóvil ante el teclado;

la música, los ruidos de los otros:

balbuceos, tartamudeos,

aplausos, gemidos, llamados,

imprecaciones, eructos,

flatos, ruegos, súplicas,

maldiciones, cánticos.

In the centre of the world,

a piano, silent;

music, the noises of the world:

there is no animal that does not cry out,

squawk, howl, puff, snort;

there is no thing

that does not grind, chirp,

squeak, ferment, exhale.

In the centre, a man

motionless at the keyboard;

the music, the noises of the others:

stammering, stuttering,

applause, groans, calls,

imprecations, belches,

flatulence, entreaties, supplications,

curses, songs.
