REPRODUCTION RIGHTS IN CANADA


CANCOPY
Non-profit organization of Canadian writers and publishers which grants permission to copy. This organization collects a licensing fee or royalty which is then given back to the artist, writer or publisher.

Creative Commons
In response to some of the issues raised in this 2003 edition of NOW, Lawrence Lessig suggested a new type of some-rights registration.
Creative Commons is non-profit organization publishing works under a voluntary "some rights reserved" copyright, thus making works free for futher creative use.
Yahoo has developed a specific search engine to locate these works.
This model is also being developed for music.



WRITERS' ORGANIZATIONS IN CANADA


Canadian Authors Association
Has been involved in securing copyright protection for Canadian writers since 1921. The organization sponsors awards, speaks before governmental enquires and otherwise fosters a climate favourable to the arts.

Canadian Writers' Organizations (Canadian Authors Association)
An exhaustive list of Canadian national, provincial, and local writers' organizations with links to such resources as genre publication, electronic publication, web design, writing software, and much other useful material.

Writers Guild of Canada
This organization represents Canadian writers of film, television, radio and new media. The Guild negotiates agreements, architects contributory medical and retirement plans for its members,lobbies government on issues of concern to (screen/media) writers. The Guild also holds an annual awards program.
